Required Student Campus Employment Workshops
The BEST (Bloomfield Educates Students for Tomorrow) Program includes: Federal Work Study, Federal Community Service, and Bloomfield Student Employment positions.
If you qualify for a work study award, you are eligible to apply for one of the designated campus or off-campus positions. Employment is NOT guaranteed. Positions are posted on College Central.
All students wishing to work in a BEST program position must attend the required workshops in order to be eligible to participate. Attending a workshop does NOT guarantee a job.
For those who are new to the program, you must attend the introductory workshop, CAREER PREP I.
If you already completed one year of work through this program, then you must attend the advanced workshop, CAREER PREP II.
Attendance at these workshops is a REQUIREMENT for participating in this program. No student will be granted a contract without attending the appropriate required workshop.
The CAREER PREP I Introductory Workshop covers:
* Setting Career Goals
* Self-assessment, Focus-2
* Resume writing and interviewing
* Applying for a position though College Central
* Interviewing Basics
* How the BEST program operates
* Quality service orientation
* Developing (or enhancing) a great work ethic
* Performance evaluations of your work
* Email communication rules and guidelines
* The importance of confidentiality
* Professionalism in the workplace
The advanced workshop, CAREER PREP II, covers:
• Updating your resume
• Building on what you learned
• Developing a career action plan
• Planning for an internship
• Performance assessment and evaluation
• What makes a good employee GREAT
You can sign up for a workshop on-line through College Central. The schedule is listed on your home page. Just click on a workshop date and register to attend.
Workshops will be offered the first two weeks of September.
