Portfolios
The Portfolio option is avalaible to students. Students have the option of making their portfolio available to employers or keeping it private.
Students can upload up to ten digital images of their work and give a personal explanation of the image. Please keep in mind that a sample of your work can also include your experiential work and co-curricular involvement. For example: study abroad, community service, missions, student leadership activities, athletics, volunteering, clubs/organizations are all areas where you can highlight your accomplishments with a digital image. Make sure your explanation focuses on the skills that you have gained as a result of each experience.
All digital images must be shrunk down the the size specifications given on the portfolio module. Images shown on the internet are always a smaller size than their original.
The portfolio module on CCN is designed to show employers images or small samples of your work. If you would like to upload text such as a poem or a paragraph as a writing sample you need to have the file in a web based file format such as .GIF or JPEG. Programs such as Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft PowerPoint can import a .DOC file and save it in another file format.
Students are also allowed to have one moving media file with a .MOV or .SWF file extension
Students may have a link on their portfolio to another website. For example if you wrote an article for the school newspaper you can have a link to your article on the newspaper web page.
There is a section on the Portfolio module where students can list their awards. Please make sure you include your academic awards,co-curricular involvement and student leader roles. This is where you would list that you attained Dean's List and that you are both the president of a campus club/organization as well as a resident assistant.
There is an additional piece on the portfolio module where students can list exhibits. This section can be used for art students who do have exhibits but it is also appropriate for you to list theater /music productions as well as presentations you may have given at a conference or group etc..
Students also have an opportunity to have a Personal Statement on their portfolio. This statement should be a reflection on your learning as a result of the experiences exhibited in your portfolio. it may also include your future goals.
Students can provide a link to a personal website. Please do not link to your Facebook site since that is a social networking site. Please only provide a link if you have a personal website that you have developed as part of a class or one that you use to to market your skills.
Undergraduate students can call ext. 7409 and and make an appointment with a career counselor for help with your portfolio. Email slazarek@assumption.edu if you have specific questions.
Below is a link to the CCN help page for portfolios. Although this help page references Art/Design Portfolios the information contained is the same information that you would use to help answer any questions that you may have on your portfolio.
