Bradford Woods is Indiana University’s Outdoor Center, a service institute of the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER). Bradford Woods is located in southern Indiana open, year round, and serves nearly 30,000 participants annually.

OPPORTUNITIES OF EMPLOYMENT:

JOB TITLE: OUTDOOR INSTRUCTOR I (3 MONTH)
REPORTS TO: DESIGNATED CENTER COORDINATOR OR DIRECTOR

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Teach environmental education modules based on established curriculum, lead recreational activities, and conduct evening activities during assigned Environmental Resource Center (ERC) programs. Facilitate group icebreakers, initiatives, and ropes/challenge course events (high and low), and conduct evening activities during assigned Challenge Education Center (CEC) programs. Support and lead recreational programs for youth and adults with disabilities during assigned Camping and Retreats (CRC) programs. Some program options may require staff to live in the cabins with participants. Support welcoming and hosting retreats groups and those visiting Bradford Woods as part of a conference or workshop on an ‘as needed’ basis. Complete reports, schedules, lesson or program plans, and other paperwork as assigned. Assist with inspection of cabins and program areas. Conduct ongoing equipment checks to insure optimal safety of staff and participants. Follow all policies and procedures regarding the use of elements, equipment, property and facilities as developed by Bradford Woods.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age
2. High School degree. Undergraduate and/or graduate students or degrees in Outdoor Education, Recreation, Environmental Education, Park and Resource Management, Education, Social Work, and related fields preferred
3. Must be willing to provide Bradford Woods with current license(s) and driving record when applicable
4. Previous facilitation and/or teaching experience preferred but not required
5. Willingness to learn
6. Flexibility
7. Patience

JOB TITLE: OUTDOOR INSTRUCTOR II (9 MONTH)

This position will follow an intensive leadership paradigm and will culminate in receipt of a Professional Field Instructor Certification from Bradford Woods. Unlike the 3 month position, there will be enhanced focus on professional growth of self and mentoring of others. Additional required trainings, in-services, and projects will be determined on both an individual and group basis to support these elevated goals and objectives.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
1. BA/BS degree in Outdoor Education, Recreation, Environmental Education, Park and Resource Management, Education, Social Work, and related fields.
2. Must have a solid foundation in planning, organizing and leading field and/or classroom experiences in environmental education, interpretation, and natural sciences and/or leading groups through adventure activities.
3. Minimum one year experience leading groups in outdoor programming preferred
