East-West Center Education Programs

ANNOUNCING COMPETITIONS FOR GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS FOR THE 2010 ACADEMIC YEAR

NOVEMBER 1, 2009 DEADLINE

» The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship, in its 5th decade, continues to provide funding for MA or Doctoral degree study to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and citizens of countries in Asia and the Pacific.

» A new fellowship, the East-West Center–National Science Foundation Doctoral Fellowship for Environmental Transitions and Emerging Infectious Diseases, will provide funding for graduate students to participate in an NSF funded research project at the East-West Center while pursuing doctoral study at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

» The Asian Development Bank–Government of Japan Scholarship provides funding for graduate degree study in ADB-approved fields at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Applicants must be a citizen of a borrowing member country of the Asian Development Bank.

» The Center's fastest growing program, the Student Affiliate Program provides an opportunity for externally funded University of Hawai'i graduate students to participate in the Center's educational and cultural programs and residential community. Applications are invited in November, April and June of each year.

DECEMBER 1, 2009 DEADLINE

»The Asia Pacific Leadership Program is an innovative, graduate-level certificate program that combines the development of regional expertise with the enhancement of individual leadership skills. The program creates a network of action focused on building a peaceful, prosperous and just Asia Pacific community.

» The Obuchi Student Scholarship provides funding for master's degree study or participation in the Asia Pacific Leadership Program to residents of Okinawa, Japan, committed to returning to contribute to its development needs.

FEBRUARY 1, 2009 DEADLINE

» United States–South Pacific Scholarship Program (USSP)
Funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, USSP provides educational opportunities to eleven South Pacific Island nations in fields relevant to the development needs in the region. Funding is for undergraduate degree or Master's level study.
