Sierra Job Link Student Etiquette
Hello!
This is a friendly reminder on using proper etiquette when applying for jobs that you find through Sierra Job Link. We do hear back from employers on what’s working for them and what’s not and we want to pass on some important information.
• When reviewing potential jobs, please make sure you do meet the specific qualifications listed in the posting—if you don’t, you are wasting both your time and the employers. If you think you are close but not exactly what they are asking for, be sure to include that rationale in your cover letter/message so they know where you’re coming from.
• Follow the application instructions included in the posting. If you don’t, you’re just telling the employer that you don’t follow directions well or pay attention to detail—both big NO’s when it comes to assessing potential employees.
• Also, if you are scheduled for an interview but cannot make it, PLEASE call the potential employer to re-schedule or let them know you are no longer interested in the position. This action is simple courtesy and helps everyone in planning their day.
Remember, your actions do reflect on Sierra Job Link, Sierra College and other Sierra students. Following these basic courtesies will benefit you and other students in meeting employer expectations and therefore, employers will continue to use our service.
As you begin or continue your job search, remember that Career Connections has numerous handouts to assist you—everything from resume help to designing an effective job search—just stop by our space on either the Rocklin or NCC campuses and help yourself!
Good luck!
