Crewing Agent, Labor Relations (Maritime)

The Crewing Agent, Labor Relations (Maritime) interacts with the senior officers on the ships and union representatives to ensure the vessels are manned in accordance with Company guidelines, collective bargaining agreement obligations and regulatory requirements.


Work directly with labor union representatives to provide qualified crew members to the fleet in ports of call in the United States and in foreign countries. This task requires a working knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreements.

Verify the domestic and international qualifications of the crew member prior to dispatch (i.e. Merchant Marine Credential, STCW certifications, TWIC, Passport & visa if necessary)

Schedule & book crew member travel to and from the vessel. Coordinate crew member travel with vessel’s Master, the crew member, the union representative, vessel’s port agent

Assist in the maintenance of the department’s handbook and instructing senior officer’s on its content

Schedule and coordinate Cadet assignments with U.S. Maritime Academies

Participate in interviewing, selecting, on boarding and monitoring assignments & performance of the Shore side interns

Assist in Collective Bargaining negotiations

Serve as certified Maritime Labor Convention auditor & crewing team subject matter expert


Associate’s Degree

Prefer shipboard experience or two years’ experience in a staffing support organization

Knowledge of federal and international maritime personnel regulatory requirements including Standards for Training and Watchkeeping Certification (STCW) & Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).

Knowledge of maritime union labor relations, policies and procedures.

The ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance to support current or future military contracts.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent records management and record keeping skills necessary to manage over 1,000 staff and shipboard personnel records.

Team building skills necessary to work with union officials, shipboard personnel and internal staff members at all levels of the organization.

Ability to operate independently, including non-standard hours, under stressful conditions to meet hard deadlines/ship sailing schedules.

Proficient in MS Office applications including Word, Outlook and Excel.

Proficient in ABS Nautical Systems 5 Enterprise Crewing Module

Job Summary

Engineer Trainees undergo a five-year training program, three of which are spent rotating to offshore rigs in a variety of positions to learn rig operations and equipment. The Trainee will fill an onshore role with focus on operations or technical support for the final two years. Both phases of the program prepare the Trainee to fill key operational or technical roles around the world.


• 1-2 years of experience in oil and gas or related industry preferred.

Education, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering required. GPA 3.0 or greater preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• To complete all requirements of the Engineer Trainee Program, which include:

- Rotational work on offshore drilling rigs, which includes a range of labor-intensive, technical and operational roles.

- The successful completion of required training, such as BOSIET, well control and leadership courses.

- The successful completion of technical reports.

- Preparation and delivery of semi-annual presentations to the management team.

- Rotational work with various onshore functional departments (Safety, Supply Chain, HR, etc.) and completion of assigned work.

- Successful completion of projects assigned by coach, mentor or other operational leaders.

• To learn all job functions in offshore rotations as well as rig systems, equipment and operational procedures.

Minimum Requirements for this position

• Initiative to deliver more than is expected.

• Effective leadership and influencing skills.

• Ability to support projects and complete work with minimal direct guidance or supervision.

• Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.

The opening is for a Junior Engineer Project Support Engineer supporting the Technical Authority and Technical Compliance of their assigned Navy Ship on behalf of the USN Civilian Chief Engineer.

Candidate must have an engineer license and the ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance. A strong personality helps as they will be working alongside retired USN chiefs and tenured USN civilian employees.
