Application for the 2019 Association for Women Journalists Intern & Scholarship

Award: $1,000 plus a one-year student membership to AWJ

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Nov. 18, 2018

The Association for Women Journalists - Chicago seeks an intern to help with the organization’s needs. AWJ would like to recognize the achievements of outstanding female-focused journalism (undergraduate or graduate) in the Chicago region. Students who have demonstrated an interest in issues important to women are encouraged to apply. All work must be completed by May 31, 2019.

The WCER (Wisconsin Center for Education Research) Fellows Program offer 4-years of full-funding (tuition remission, a $25,000 annual stipend, health care and travel funds) and wrap-around professional development support to selected students pursuing a doctoral degree in any discipline within the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin.

Mission: WCER Fellows seeks to contribute to the diversity of scholarly leaders in the professoriate and other research professions.

Goals: WCER Fellows will gain a wealth of skills by engagement in a diversity of research experiences without increasing time to degree completion.

What do our volunteers do?

Our Medical Advocate Volunteers are on call to provide 24-hour medical advocacy to hospital emergency rooms.

With the survivor’s permission, advocates provide comfort

throughout hospital examinations, evidence collection, police

interviews and overall support.

Volunteers demonstrate a non-judgmental support toward all

survivors of sexual assault. Volunteer Advocates will benefit from comprehensive training, experience in crisis counseling, references for future job opportunities and opportunities to interact with veteran

advocates.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 18 years of age

Mobile Phone Needed

Reliable transportation

One year service commitment

Must complete 50+ hour Crisis Intervention Training

Starting in Fall 2018: A relatively small scale recruiting effort will be performed to fill outreach and office positions, including Recruiting Assistant, Office Operations Supervisor, and Clerk positions.

Starting in January 2019: The Census Bureau will begin opening 40 Area Census Offices (ACOs) to support the first large field operation, Address Canvassing. The recruiting effort will take place from January 2019 to June 2019.

Starting in June 2019: An additional 208 ACOs will begin opening to support all field operations conducted in the year 2020. The recruiting effort will take place from September 2019 to February 2020.
