Registered apprenticeships have been utilized to meet workforce needs nationwide for decades. These programs offer employers the opportunity to build and enrich a company’s high-quality talent pipeline while bolstering its bottom line.

The Hall Associates Career Center at Virginia Western can work with your business by providing customized services for new and pre-existing registered apprenticeship programs. Many services are at no cost and can help you build, improve, or expand an apprenticeship program. Virginia Western supports prospective and current register apprenticeship program sponsors with:

• Apprenticeship development assistance

• Related technical instruction (RTI) alignment

• Apprentice candidate recruiting

• Customized supervisor and mentor training.

Apprenticeships are a great opportunity for students and employers. Students can immediately begin their full-time careers, and employers improve their prospects for profitability and growth.

Virginia Western Community College coordinates activities and training to expand and support Registered Apprenticeships and was one of 66 colleges across the nation awarded the Expanding Community College Apprenticeships (ECCA) initiative grant, led by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) with funding from the U.S. Department of Labor to increase the number of apprentice programs and services throughout the country. Funding through the ECCA grant allows Virginia Western to support employers with Registered Apprenticeship programs, as well as assist current and future Registered Apprentices.

• Healthcare

• Information Technology

• Non-Traditional Occupations

There are many reasons to hire an apprentice, including but not limited to:

• Access to new, skilled and motivated employees

• Establish new pipelines for talent

• Customized training that meets standards and needs

• Higher retention: average 91% apprentice retention rate

• Potential tax incentives and state / local funding support

• Increased knowledge transfer from experienced mentors

The Hall Associates Career Center abides by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice and supports employers that practice similar ethical principles. Approved participating employers and employer representatives are expected to comply with Equal Employment Opportunity regulations and related legislation in their recruitment and hiring practices (job postings, on campus recruiting, campus visits and career event attendance).

Career Services staff may review job descriptions posted by any employer for appropriateness and content, and reserves the right to remove any job postings and descriptions without notice or explanation to the employer. Additionally, the Center reserves the right to decline or disable an employer account that fails to adequately comply with the policies and procedures. Please review the following policies and restrictions established for recruiting:


Commission-Only Employment

Employers offering employment opportunities must pay a base salary equal to or greater than the federal minimum wage and comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Compensation packages consisting of commission only are prohibited.

Private Care or other In-Home Employment

We do not post private care jobs or other positions (i.e. personal assistant, caregiver, babysitting, in-home tutoring, etc.) where an employee will work out of someone’s home.

Product Purchase or Financial Investment

Employers requiring prospective employees to purchase products or services as a condition of employment are not permitted to recruit on campus nor electronically. This includes but is not limited to membership fees, startup fees, fees for lessons or training, licensing fees, portfolio fees, placement fees, and the purchase of tools, samples, sales kits, or monetary investment.

“Pyramid” or "Multi-Level" Employers

Businesses advertising employment opportunities based on a "pyramid" or "multi-level" networking structure requiring or encouraging the recruitment of others to sell products and services will not be permitted to utilize services to recruit on campus nor electronically.


All internship opportunities must be in compliance with the NACE and Department of Labor criteria. Employers wishing to post unpaid internships must demonstrate that the internship experience will meet the seven criteria established by DOL.

Our online Employer Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You must register your organization with our office prior to accessing these services. Once your registration is reviewed, if it is approved you will receive an email which includes a link to activate your account.
